Hachiroku – A fast one!Hachiroku – A fast one!

The average Toyota Corolla AE86 is about 25 years old and has seen a million kilometers on the road. After this time it should be time for retirement, unfortunatly things didn’t work out so well for this example. Andreas Lanz considered this to be the perfect car for one purpose – beeing fast uphill!

After an accident in 2007, it was time to go all out for Andy. Starting with this particular Toyota Corolla AE86 Levin, nobody would ever dream of the insane speed the car is producing after the transformation is done.

The first big step was to remove all the unnecessary bits in the car.

He fixed the small rusty places a 25 year old car normally has.

The overfenders are just one indicator for the seriousness of that project

This looks to be serious business

Will this fit?

A full weld-in cage was soon in the car.

Chassis preperation done!

At this point, most people would consider the car as done, but not for Andreas. This was just the beginning of a long winter. He started to fabricate his own parts using fibrecomposite mats and epoxy resin. The hood, fenders, trunk, rear overfender are done by himself and all in sake of the ultimate low weight goal for the car!

The fender in a very raw state!

A few hours later

The sample form for the parts where made out of polyurethan foam and than covered with fibre mats and epoxy.

Fuel cell went in

The original fuel tank was just replaced by the cell

Twin masterbrake cylinders help to adjust the brake bias to perfection

An Impreza muffler started a new career in this racecar

The car ready to be painted

The build took about 1000 hours so far. Building a car from scratch is a very tough thing. All over the internet you see guys doing this and displaying it on forums. Andy didn’t do it like that, he just finished his project and was back on Track in 2008!

The engine was build by Roth Racing a very known and respected engine tuner. The engine for 2009 produced around 215bhp, and was mated to a 6-speed sequential gearbox made by Quaife and supplied through Speed Industries.

A very impressive result. Nobody would have thought that an old Corolla can be tranformed into such a monster. After an educational pause in 2010, we all wish Andreas a good season 2011 and are proud to have such a strong driver in the Team.
